broken laptop problem repair support center warranty help

Article

Students are encouraged to visit the ITS student support technology center located on Central Campus in Building 1, room 159 (next to the Bertolon Cafe) for help with wi-fi, virus remediation and anti-virus software assistance, software library issues, general troubleshooting, warranty support on recommended Dell systems, and other technology related questions.

Bring your recommended Dell notebook computer to us and receive on-site warranty support, at no cost, for failed or broken hardware components such as hard drives, keyboards, display panels, and other part(s) damaged by accident (excluding batteries).

What will be fixed if my recommended laptop computer needs repair?

A replacement part will be ordered and installed for each component that has functionally failed or is accidentally damaged. For example:

> a new keyboard will be ordered and installed; if the keyboard no longer types, has missing keycaps, or other issues such as sticky keys possibly resulting from accidental liquid spills.

> a new hard drive will be ordered and installed; in the event that hard drive diagnostics indicate a functional failure (in most cases a bad hard drive is the result of corrupted software and can be reformatted).

> a new LCD panel will be ordered and installed; if the LCD panel is no longer visible or appears to be broken as the result of accidental damage.

> other components that can be ordered and installed, if necessary, include but are not limited to: AC adapter and powercord, internal speakers, memory card (ram), motherboard, processor fan, and webcam.

In the event a repair is necessary, please review the laptop repair - drop off / pickup procedures prior to bringing a laptop in.

The cosmetic, or aesthetic, condition of a laptop is, according to Dell, not warranty related and will not be considered a necessary repair.

A laptop battery is usually covered under warranty for up to one year from the date of shipment from the vendor.

A loaner laptop may be requested if the necessary repairs are not completed within 48 hours.

Student laptop support is located in Central Campus, Building 1, room CC 159.
